Affleck's Batman Returns. Cool?

Multiple news outlets have reported that Ben Affleck, who most recently donned the Batman cowl in 2017's "Justice League" before stepping away from the role, has agreed to return to the role for the upcoming 2022 film "The Flash".
My initial thought to this news was “Oh, was I supposed to be excited about this?”. Based on posts across social media, the fans welcomed this update with positivity. I mean, after DC lays off about a 1/3 of its staff, closes down its in-house merchandising department, cancels a slew of titles, completely unravels its dedicated app, and seemingly looks to change the way it produces comics.....sure, hard to argue against this being on the good side.
I have never been mistaken for someone who sucks on the DC tittie and I'm sure many out there who do have come out of the woodwork for this one. I think Ben Affleck was a great Batman and could have been a highly successful (and praised) rendition of the character. Unfortunately, that was not to be, as DC/WB could never get their shit straight and decide on what the fuck they were doing and continued a track record of an incoherent and uncoordinated set of films and ideas. Thus, an extremely promising Batman reboot was launched and the transition to a new cowl would begin.
A plethora, perhaps even the majority, of fans would argue that Batman is the single greatest hero of all time. A character that should be respected and revered. But when you have so much of something, it doesn't really feel as special anymore. I know that DC will never stop with Batman, but respect the character enough to have a singular spotlight, rather than throw out as many as you can for a payday. I can only hope that Affleck's return is a one-off.
Every major Batman, thus far, has been given his own chance to take the spotlight and transform the character. Some have done it well, such as Affleck did, and some not so much (looking at you Clooney), but Pattinson should be given his shot without the potential overshadowing of a former Batman.
